Cookin' With Leo

Black Olives For Barstool Beauties

Back in my bartending days, I used to get quite aggravated by the bar chicks that used to frequent the joints and nurse a drink for hours while waiting for some guy to show up and feed their ego beside feeding their habit. While nursing a drink and waiting for some unsuspecting charmer, they would feed their appetites on the pieces of the picked fruit and olives used to garnish the various mixed drinks. That used to get me quite upset by such antics as I had to cut up and fix up more garnishments. So I devised a cruel bit of devilment to put a stop to such devouring of delicacies. However my devilment turned out to be a delicacy by itself. So I will pass it on. And, if you are having a house party and serving drinks and everybody is chowin' down on your picked bar garnishments, then give them something to remember you by.

The day before your party, get a large jar or two, depending on the size of your party, of ripe black olives. Get the ones with the pits in as the others are too expensive to waste on the bar crowd. And get a bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce, or Tabasco and some Bar Bitters. Drain the olives and pour them into a plastic sealable bag. Shake about a bar jigger of Hot Sauce over each jar of olives. Also shake in about half a jigger of Bitters. Seal the bag and place in the fridge overnight. Rotate the bag several times to make sure the olives are all well coated. While setting up the next day, take the olives out of the fridge and set them on the bar and let them get to room temperature. Place several small bowls of the olives on the bar. Drain off any excess liquid so that the hot sauce is not obvious. But, place your drink garnish on the back bar or below the bar, so that your hungry guests will not chow down on the prepared picked drink toppings. Now your hungry guests will chow down on the Black Olives. And, you know what? They will even like them, most of them anyway.

Take Care Now, Ya'heah!

Comment: Dear Leo, I am sorry, but thought that was cruel of you what you did. Why did you not just move the garnishments to the back of the bar instead of doing that? Remember or Lord says " Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I do not care if it was girls or guys they do not think about eating thoses garshments as a no no. They only see them as a fixture that are sitting there to be eaten. I do remember being that young and doing the very same thing. Not thinking it was wrong and someone else would have to replenish them.
