Attack On America

Discussion Started by Michael Craner

Pencil Stubs Online - Webmaster

I have started this special-edition, interactive commentary for everyone who wishes to participate.  Your comments will not be edited or censored, however I DO ask that you refrain from propagating rumors or unfounded reports.  Your comments, feelings, and opinions ARE welcome.  Pencil Stubs Online and AMEA Publications does not endorse nor accept any responsibility for the comments and statements contained in this document, including those made by myself.  You are welcome to post multiple times as your feelings and thoughts evolve, creating a kind of journal for your experiences.  No one is required to include their name or email address to comment, these fields are merely here for those willing to put them beside their comments.

That being said, I will now start off this commentary with my own thoughts.

It is with mixed emotions that I write this.  Part of me wants to turn the other cheek, not to react to violence with violence.  Yet the Army Veteran, the Proud American, the overload of testosterone and youth make me want to nuke the sons of bitches that did this to us, but only after we beat them to a bloody pulp.  I know I'm not alone in these feelings, that is why I am encouraging your comments.

As my co-workers began to arrive at the office, (I'm usually the first one in) I overheard them asking each other if they heard about the plane the struck the World Trade Center.  I didn't think too much of it, it seems planes are always crashing these days, however it was moments later that we discovered that the second plane had struck.  We quickly had a television set up that we normally use for training videos and tuned into the local NBC affiliate.

It was then that we realized that the "accident" was no accident.  Throughout the morning as the events unfolded, and I witnessed the destruction to the World Trade Center in New York City, followed by the Pentagon, I began to realize what most of us had.  We were under terrorist attack.

We had no idea when it would end, how far it would reach directly.  We already knew by this time that it was the most serious attack we have faced in a very long time.  Even at the time of this writing, in the mid-evening of the day, we still can't be certain that the attack is over.  We can only pray that it is.

Myself and another co-worker went to the American Red Cross today (9/11/01), hoping that we could do SOMETHING to help, but we were turned away.  They weren't taking any donations, probably because since we are in the mid-west, they had no way to move the donations where they could be used.  You can bet that we will be there again tomorrow at noon when they open up.

There are so many aspects to what has happened, it is hard to maintain a coherent thought.  I'm concerned about how easy it was to hijack four planes, to crash at least one in a restricted airspace.  I'm concerned about how we missed the signals, how something so tragic could have happened with scarcely a clue.  Yet everyone seems to be talking about how it was such a complicated operation, while I do feel it was complicated, it was really a very simple plan, probably the most likely to succeed.  I also can't claim to be surprised.  I've long known we are a very unpopular country in the world, and our security is superficial at best, although better than that of several other countries.

I feel very deeply for the families of those who were taken by these terrorists, but they are not the only ones affected.  All over the country there has been a run on gasoline, as Americans fear the worst, and attempt to stock up on this highly valued product.  I suspect we could even experience riots and domestic disputes over gas and other supplies as folks react to the news and their anticipation of near future events as related to these attacks.  I strongly encourage people NOT to act on these feelings, to remember that we are all in this together, to stand on their own fortitude rather than reacting to their fears, further hurting their neighbors to their own gains.  This is what terrorism is all about, and what they hope to cause.

The part that hurt me the most, that brought tears to my eyes, was when the news showed school officials trying to explain what happened to children.  I realized then, that although my own kids don't fully understand what happened, they are forever scarred by these events.  They will come to realize the full extent of what has happened, and the trust and love of humanity that we have long enjoyed will be lost to them.  Between violence in our schools and terrorism on our homeland, they will hate all those who are different from them, distrust them, and ultimately our society and everything we have worked for will be destroyed.

On 9/11/01, America's innocence was destroyed.  We ARE a changed nation now, and certainly not for the better of mankind.  The ignition of the bomb that destroys humanity as we know it has been lit.  This attack has/will spark a retaliation, which will result in a series of counter-strikes, until we ultimately destroy ourselves.

Do I think we should turn the other cheek?  No.  Should we strike back with force? I say YES.  Is it the right thing to do?  Will we emerge victorious? I doubt it...

Comment: My brother escaped from the second tower hit, running down 50 floors. He was on 17 when the second plane hit his building... He got back to Jersey three days later on a National Guard truck.. My sister is an ER nurse on the Jersey side.. The perpetrators lived in a motel near her home.. She was on alert that morning, waiting for casualties that never came... Another sister witnessed the attack from a Federal building on the Jersey side.. The building was evacuated and she says it's hard to describe the fear in the air, and on the faces of the police and people as they ran to escape not knowing if more planes might be on the way.. The fear in her face as she relates the story brings it home. They all say they thought, in those minutes, that more planes might be coming.. They all lost friends and colleagues and acquaintances.. We live in another part of the country and it wasn't until we returned for my brother's 50th birthday that we understood how the post trauma effected those directly touched.. Life changed irrevocably that day.. Memorial services, deployment, unexpected travel... The future lost much promise and became threatening.. Before he left he said, "This is big, baby.. This is really Big.." Too big to get your brain around..

Comment: I am now writing a term paper on the events of September 11th. I am learning so much from my research.About the foreign policy that the US has and it's effects in the Middle East and also about Osama Bin Laden. I was in school at the time of the attacks. Teachers werent allowed to show students the televisions. It seems as if everyone wanted to hide the fact that America was under attack. High School students not allowed to know what is going on. It was crazy. We finally found out the news about 2-3 hours after everything happened. I remember going home that day and seeing my parents watching the television as I sat there in complete shock. I remember starting to cry as I wathced the news channels replay the towers falling thinking of all the lives that were taken. One of my friends parents were in the building. He was one of the lucky ones who was able to get out in time. I want to send my thanks to those that were involved in the rescue efforts. And send my prayers to those who's lives were lost.

Comment: I think that the USA didn't worth the attack they received the septempber 11. But they should look at what they do to the other countries. There's a lot of poverty and exploitation caused by the americans only looking for natural ressources to be much richer in their capitalism system. They should care about the other countries and maybe the terrorists will no longer attack the USA. But, I definetly don't support Bin Laden (if he really did the attack because I'm far from being sure he did it, because there's a lot of bizarre thing in this investigation). Nobody deserves such a violent attack but we can't just fight terrorism, we must attack the cause and look at ourselves in the mirror to see if we're not a little guilty for the september 11. Finally, don't think I'm Afghan or whatever, I'm from Canada. (sorry for my english, I speak french)

Comment: As I read many of these postings here and we are near the end of June, have watched the rebuilding of the Pentagon, I still have tears. This has been a very serious wake up call for all of us. Life is to be cherished. And those who have gone before us? Well, we need to keep them in our hearts. You cannot reason with individuals who do not hold life but hold death in high regard. They have missed the whole reasoning of why we are here. And I will always remember watching out my livingroom window, the shock of seeing the billows of black smoke coming from the Pentagon. Thinking.....this couldn't be happening. But there is was. However, I will not cave in to fear or retribution to people who have no concepts of what living LIFE incompasses.I AM a Proud American, a VietNam Era Veteran, and Patriot. They will not succeed!

Comment: It is now March 2002. What an amazing amount of planning and cooperation throughout the free world has gone into waging the war against Terrorists. Britains prime minister has impressed me with his support and actions to aid America in pursuing the Taliban, for instance. Also, the scientific advances we have at hand now, which are being used to determine if Ben Laden has been extinguished.. the DNA tests of Afghanistanian debris, etc... show that all efforts are being made to handle this war on terrorism with the best of our knowledge. The plans to help the Afghanistan people to resume a normal and dignified way of life, compared to the oppression of the Al Queda regime, are being generated by cooperation on a free world wide level. The money amounts being mentioned stagger one's mind, but I am trusting that the leaders who make these plans are aiming for terrorist-free countries everywhere...

Comment: I am incredibly horrified by what has happened, and our country's unity after Sept. 11th amazed me more than anything else. It is clear that, when we pull together, American is a force that no one wants to deal with; I was proud of our initial actions. Yet, now,as we continue creating unecessary restraints upon our own liberty, and brutal attacks on the citizens of other countries, we must as ourselves why we are doing this. After all, terrorism was initially a revolt against American action, adn, until we adress that action, we have no way of preventing future attacks. Of course, we may be albe to disassemble the Taliban, but what can make us beleive that we can ever disassemble the mentality that allowed such an organization to exist? By reacting violently and with the use of words such as "evil," we come no closer to concerning ourselves with the true facts, adn reasons behind September's events. While doing this, we may feel powerfull, but have, in the end, acheived nothing as other terrorists will react to our current actions in the future. Please, America, let this be a wake up call to use; we can not longer act quickly without realizing the consequences for our rash actions. We have seen that we are not undestructable, and can not longer continue to act as though we were.

Comment: I am 30 years old, and I don't think I had really known patriotism until September 11. I said the Pledge of Allegiance all through public school. I put my hand over my heart whenever I heard the National Anthem. I could recite the preamble to the Constitution and got good grades in government in high school. I lived overseas for 18 months and have traveled abroad, and I appreciated even more the freedoms we enjoy here in my travels. As a writer, I could define the word for you. But I don't think I really knew patriotism. It is now December 6, and I am still deeply affected by this war. I watch the news religiously to see how the battle in Afghanistan is going. Tears still flow when I see images of the World Trade Center, firefighters, police officers, the men and women in the Armed Services, Mayor Rudy Guiliani, President Bush, and the American flag. I cannot hold them back when I hear "America the Beautiful" or the National Anthem. Many of the tears are those of grief and pain, but from them have grown a deep love for the people and institutions of this, my country. I am inspired by how Americans everywhere have rallied together despite many differences. I am inspired by the leadership of our elected officials, especially the President. I am inspired by the American flags still waving proudly on my neighbor's lawn. In watching attacks on our very way of life, I have developed a deeper love of that way of life, no matter how troubled it can be. I have a greater devotion to my country, a greater respect and gratitude for the principles upon which it is built. I feel more connected to my fellow Americans. I have realized the power of the human spirit and the power we have to choose our reactions despite the circumstances. There is power in that ability, and power in our patriotism. It unifies us when nothing else does. It is not arrogance but love and devotion that yield patriotism, and I know it now by experience rather than in theory.

Comment: its been a little over a month since the attacks. Our country is a changed one...thats one sure thing. as the president said, retaliation is at hand. Hours and hours have i spent in front of the television, watching the horror of a fiction movie unfold into the streets of new york city. For all those who have lost loved ones i send my prayers to you. America is a strong country. Osama Bin Laden is a criminal...and our hearts are filled with a burning hate for him, but let us not turn to violence. In doing so we have given into evil as he did. He is a devil, harboring evil, why reward him with a sign that we will give into temptation? I am a Catholic and i try to think that i would do the right thing if I were standing in front of him today. Would i kill him? Murder is a sin...will i give up my soul for revenge? I honestly couldnt tell you. I have created a never-ending list of ways to torture him in my head...and God knows i would carry each one of them out. I pray that his senseless acts of evil and hate do not result in World War III, after seeing Americans die, Brothers, Sisters, Mothers and Fathers. I wish not to see my Brothers, Friends, and Father got to war. but if it means maintaing freedom then so be it. It's time for everyone to show support and may God bless America.

Comment: I have been feeling rather unprotected since June 2001, when the Palestinians turned their intifada terrorist attacks to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem -- biggest population center and most important city to the Jews and Christians (and third most important to Muslims) respectively. When the terrorism hit the US, I was shocked by the magnitude but not surprised that it occurred. It was only a matter of time. I am saddened that we must fight, but I believe we must. And if it turns into WWIII, America will not be the initiators. From everything I've been reading, bin Laden has been trying to draw us into battle for at least 4 years now. We've let his forces grow during that time by staying out of fighting. We can't afford to allow them to get any stronger or bigger. My many thanks go out to, and many prayers for, all the defenders of this country and of the free world. And may G-d Most High help us all.

Comment: This was sent to me by a friend and I wanted to send it to y'all ... A different perspective than some we have been receiving! Sir, I would like to thank you for taking the time out to send a few of your willing workers of hate and deception to this country to attempt to destroy us. In the process of trying to terrorize us to death, the hand of God stepped in and still got glory within your evil and deceptive plan to put fear in the hearts and minds of the American people. 1. Thank you for showing and allowing our President and past Presidents to Worship and pray together in the same Sanctuary. 2. Thank you for having Congress bow at the Feet of Jesus and ask for forgiveness and ask for the Lord's strength in leading the nation's people. 3. Thank you for allowing Prayer in the schools once more and having our children across the nation be able to ask God for strength and protection throughout their school day. 4. Thank you for letting employers give workers time to pray and worship our Savior during their work hour. 5. Thank you for showing us that it is the hand of God that allows us to be here day in and day out, we are not just here on our own. 6. Thank you for leading more people back to church in one day to get things right with God than all the witnessing of all the Christians in this country could do in one year. 7. Thank you for waking us up and letting us know that people still care in this country and that we are bigger than the problems in this country. 8. Thank you for reminding us that racial, religious, and cultural hatred is useless and nothing good comes from harboring it. 9. Thank you for letting us again understand why on our money it says in God we trust, we sing God bless America and what true patriotism is. 10. Most of all Mr. Bin Laden, now that the Lord is on our side, Thank you for letting Him take His rightful place on the battlefield, so you will know that HE will have the victory! His word says...If two or three gather in my name it is done. So in all, we thank you very much for strengthening our faith in God and our love for our fellow American no matter what color, race, creed or religion... A Proud American Citizen.. and a Soldier in the Army of the Lord... AMEN.........

Comment: RAWA statement on the terrorist attacks in the US The people of Afghanistan have nothing to do with Osama and his accomplices On September 11, 2001 the world was stunned with the horrific terrorist attacks on the United States. RAWA stands with the rest of the world in expressing our sorrow and condemnation for this barbaric act of violence and terror. RAWA had already warned that the United States should not support the most treacherous, most criminal, most anti-democracy and anti-women Islamic fundamentalist parties because after both the Jehadi and the Taliban have committed every possible type of heinous crimes against our people, they would feel no shame in committing such crimes against the American people whom they consider "infidel". In order to gain and maintain their power, these barbaric criminals are ready to turn easily to any criminal force. But unfortunately we must say that it was the government of the United States who supported Pakistani dictator Gen. Zia-ul Haq in creating thousands of religious schools from which the germs of Taliban emerged. In the similar way, as is clear to all, Osama Bin Laden has been the blue-eyed boy of CIA. But what is more painful is that American politicians have not drawn a lesson from their pro-fundamentalist policies in our country and are still supporting this or that fundamentalist band or leader. In our opinion any kind of support to the fundamentalist Taliban and Jehadies is actually trampling democratic, women's rights and human rights values. If it is established that the suspects of the terrorist attacks are outside the US, our constant claim that fundamentalist terrorists would devour their creators, is proved once more. The US government should consider the root cause of this terrible event, which has not been the first and will not be the last one too. The US should stop supporting Afghan terrorists and their supporters once and for all. Now that the Taliban and Osama are the prime suspects by the US officials after the criminal attacks, will the US subject Afghanistan to a military attack similar to the one in 1998 and kill thousands of innocent Afghans for the crimes committed by the Taliban and Osama? Does the US think that through such attacks, with thousands of deprived, poor and innocent people of Afghanistan as its victims, will be able to wipe out the root-cause of terrorism, or will it spread terrorism even to a larger scale? From our point of view a vast and indiscriminate military attacks on a country that has been facing permanent disasters for more than two decades will not be a matter of pride. We don't think such an attack would be the expression of the will of the American people. The US government and people should know that there is a vast difference between the poor and devastated people of Afghanistan and the terrorist Jehadi and Taliban criminals. While we once again announce our solidarity and deep sorrow with the people of the US, we also believe that attacking Afghanistan and killing its most ruined and destitute people will not in any way decrease the grief of the American people. We sincerely hope that the great American people could DIFFERENTIATE between the people of Afghanistan and a handful of fundamentalist terrorists. Our hearts go out to the people of the US. Down with terrorism! Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) September 14, 2001

Comment: In answer to cant we all just get along . In a perfect world yes I guess we would all just get along. I feel most of the human race are trying to do just that. Most of the cultures in the world are able to overcome the differences that make each of them unique, though there will always be the fanatical groups, those who we just dont understand , extremists that feel the majority not the minority are the MADHATTERS of society. Those that feel great jealousy and anger at the achievements made by others either in there own backyard or those in the broader world. Each nations has its own, and sadely, these same nations have meaner, more develish, evil men and women that see the despicable actions they choose to undertake as ways and means to carry out orders from a directly higher order. If there is a god, and I am sure there is he would not wish these acts of terrorism on any one of his children. So these acts can only be followed through by the direct followers of the devil himself. And yes I guess he does exist on this earth unfortunately he takes on many forms. The fate of the world is already decided , it is the role in that fate for each and everyone of us that is unsure to us . So those of us , and there are many many millions that want to live in a free and fearless world we must go on and try to block out our fears. Raise our families, live our lives for however long this will be and love one another . Our world will never be rid of these evil people as for every one we rid the world of another is born to replace them, and No we will never all just be able to "Get Along" our ego's wont let us and our differences will always divide one way or another. Take Care xxx

Comment: After reading Socrates comments, I sat here at the comment post and tried to write a letter but I could not get it worded right so I went to bed to sleep on it. This morning my husband DID appear to me and tell me that things are stirred up in the plane that he is in now and that this terrible happening had been foreordained so I must stay calm and be often in the Spirit. Also that I should pass the message along to others to not lose their confidence in the Spirit but to stay calm and help each other, also to stock up for the winter and to spend wisely. After he was gone, my father appeared. I had not seen him since 1984 when he and my mother appeared to me and told me they would not be seeing me again for a long time as they were moving to a higher plane. Dad said their plane was also stirred up and that this is a time of change for all planes. I got the feeling that it was connnected to the true time of Age of Aquarius arriving. Also he told me not to pay so much attention to the news media as they were mostly wrong about things anyway. My Dad was always mischievious and liked to tease me. Many blessings. Anne/Cassandra

Comment: Courtesy of MSN.COM: How to Fly an American Flag... Ideally, an American flag on your house should hang from a staff that angles out from the front wall, a windowsill, or balcony. It's a good idea to screw a bracket made for holding a flagstaff to the trim. Fasten it securely so it won't become soiled or damaged. Do not allow the flag to touch the ground, floor, water, or anything else beneath it. It's also appropriate to hang the flag from a horizontal staff. Whether the flag hangs from an angled or horizontal staff, be sure the union or canton (the rectangle with the stars) is at the peak. (Hanging the flag with the union down signals extreme distress.) When our President declares the flag to be flown at half-staff, it is acceptable to hang the flag from a horizontal staff with the union down, though your neighbors may not understand why you're doing this. When the flag is displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be at the top and to your left. When displayed in a window, the flag should be hung so that the union is on the left when you see it from the street. The American flag is meant to be a flag; don't use it for any other purpose. For example, don't use it as drapery, ceiling decoration, or as a bed spread. And never use it as a receptacle for carrying or holding anything. Though it is customary to fly the flag from sunrise to sunset, the U.S. Code says that "when a patriotic effect is desired," you can display it around the clock. If you do, you should illuminate it with a light. If you display the American flag next to other flags or pennants, place it on the right side of a single flag or at the center of a group and slightly higher than the other flags. If an American flag is on the same staff as other flags, it should always be at the top. The gist is that other flags should not be in positions of greater prominence or honor. When displayed from a car, the flagstaff should be fixed or clamped firmly to the vehicle, ideally on the right side. The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back. The same holds true for a flag displayed on a float in a parade. Don't carry the flag flat or horizontally. And, because it is not meant to be apparel, do not wear a United States flag. If you wear a lapel flag, pin it on the left side, near your heart. Why bother with flag etiquette when you're excited about flying the Stars and Stripes? I figure that, for more than two hundred years, our country's military, firemen, police, and other service personnel have practiced these measures faithfully, treating our flag with the highest esteem. This is one way we can meet the high standard they have set.

While I am angered and saddened about this attack and too would like to find the bastards that did this and tear them apart, I hope this event has been a wake up call for all of us. I hope that while we seek justice for those who lost their lives, we tell those we love how much they matter. Life is precious and far too short, love is eternal. God Bless us all.

I trained cutting horses... and our forces are well trained. A good cutting horse and knowledgeable rider can cut out an animal from the herd without touching another animal in that herd. This is not going to be a stampede, folks.

Comment: It is with a heavy heart~certainly NO pun intended~that I write this...to you..... fellow people of planet earth. Our backgrounds are quite similar, which is why I think you should listen to these words, even tho' you may disagee vehemently! Let me first say that I am very sad that this bombing has happened, with sooo many people killed, and that I also don't hold THE ANSWER of how to respond. What you may not know is that I served 20 years active duty in the USAF, ergo I am NOT without patriotism, concern, and anger~to say the absolute least. I am very sad also that America's first reaction (all those I know and come into contact with) is for REVENGE! All they want to know is WHO is responsible...? they want to "kill the bastards" and let GOD sort it all out, or, they want to ask questions later after a bloody masacre of the blamed infidels. Also, these same blood-thirsty people sincerely belive that GOD is on OUR side~& NOT theirs! :( Belonging to a motorcycle club with an active website, I've been privy to hear [see] the anger emanate and escalate to the point of member turning against member. I have listened [read] so, so many posts, friends. And it deeply saddens me to hear [read] the overwhelming rage of human being against human being.... I am NOT advocating turning the other cheek...not knowingly, I'm not.......but yet to what avail will further bloodshed bring, people? Will you feel better standing over the dead carcas of what was once a living, breathing human being~albeit not one any of 'us' could love or even like? Would you feel comfortable facing your Maker, seeing tears stream down His face because you killed one of His creations? :( I dunno, earthlings~I think like this~I try to step back and get different perspective than being too close to the forest to see the trees. I cannot fault ANYONE for 'their' feelings & 'their' choices, but I can feel sad about them. I'm not judging you or anyone~I am as guilty of being human as the next entity. But.... I just cannot bring myself to feel that "an eye for an eye" is the correct response/action........ Will terrorism ever end? No way! Never! It is simply a fact of life on this planet~NOW, at this point in so-called "time." Perhaps, once, long, long ago.........nah!!! I think, even then, it existed! I hurt for the survivors, for the loved ones of those killed~cuz~ of course their lives are forever changed. And yet, what would make things right? Nothing I can think of, fellow earthlings~ absolutely nothing at all.... The bombing action cannot be reversed. Anything else /Everything else just adds to what might collectively be reduced to "bad karma!" If wishing made it so, I wish it had never happened. But, I wish a lot of things........... I wish all people everywhere could & would love one another as they love themselves. I wish we ALL still lived in The Garden of Eden. I wish I wasn't "here" to see so much pain. I wish I didn't have to work at all. I wish I had magic words. I wish us all Hope. I wish l~o~v~e...would conquer ALL. but all I can truly feel is melancholy :( *~* Socrates, Human Being, Earth *~* Remember, we're ALL in this together, meaning we're ALL a part of this world! *~* Try not to hate! It's not too late! *~*

Comment: In terms of the terrorist attacks by the terrorist, I'm sure their attacks acceded their wildest expectations! Is this the last attack? According to those "in the know" that have been interviewed on the networks, the answer is no! What is the next scenerio? Biological or atomic weapons against us appears a concensus among the experts, that in all probability a biological attack will be made. When and where, no one knows! What then? The death toll could be in the hundreds of thousands! This is no false alarm, who thought that terrorists would kill over 5,000 innocent men, women, and children? They must be cleaned out and a final end put to them! It's as simple as that, them or us!It is well known to almost everyone in the United States as well as the world who the terrorists are and which countries finance and support them. Afganastan is not alone in this. Just as guilty by their support, complicity, and harboring of terrorists are Libya, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and of course the ever smiling peace loving Arafat and the Palestinians. As long as these counties exist and go unpunished terrorism against the United States will be a fact. The terrorists are in other countries in hiding and must be ferreted out as well. Just about the entire world is with us now and now is the time to get rid of them. This would be a good time to use ICBMs with low megaton neutron (cleaner) war heads and take out these rouge governments. Then partition those countries off. Give Afganastan to Russia, Libya back to France, etc. Set these rouge nations under the control of "civilized" nations that have an interest in peace. Think about it, what are your thoughts on it when we recieve another more heinous blow to our nation!

Comment: I have read most every word written here. Thank you Mike, for starting this. My thoughts on this are mixed. But as I read through all comments and reflected on my feelings, I have just a few things to add or second. I am proud to be an American. I am grateful for the freedom to say what I think. An although I have a draft-age son, If it takes a WWIII to rid the world of these maniacs called terrorists, then it must be done. I have lost my sense of security ...it could have happened here, to my family and friends! It could still happen if the powers that be do not take a stand SOONER than LATER......I would urge caution but agree something has to be done to rid the world of terrorism! After Tuesday's attack on US, watching the panic in the streets, the collapse of buildings, the loss of INNOCENT lives in these explosions, I NOW KNOW what it is like to be AFRAID...fearful of an attack on my family, anywhere, anytime...Like June, It makes me angry to have lost that sense of safety and security! And Dad, I never said this before, THANKS FOR YOUR PART IN WWII...AND THANKS TO EVERY VETERAN ALIVE OR DECEASED WHO FOUGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM and our protection. Our Flag stands for freedom...not for revenge. If our freedom and lives are endangered by terrorists, we will fight for that reason, not for revenge. I am not an eloquent writer and I do tend to ramble (!) These things are coming from my heart...the heart of an American, with that indomitable American Spirit, who still believes in the Home of the FREE and the BRAVE. God Bless all who died or who lost loved ones in this tragedy. God Bless all the rescue and clean up workers who have a terrible job to do and finally, God Bless our Leaders; May they listen to us and good sense when making the tough decisions ahead of them as we strive to rid the world of terrorism. I pray everyday that someday we will again know that feeling of security we have lost!

Comment: The Dalai Lama's letter to the President of the United States of America Your Excellency, I am deeply shocked by the terrorist attacks that took place involving four apparently hijacked aircrafts and the immense devastation these caused. It is a terrible tragedy that so many innocent lives have been lost and it seems unbelievable that anyone would choose to target the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. We are deeply saddened. On behalf of the Tibetan people I would like to convey our deepest condolence and solidarity with the American people during this painful time. Our prayers go out to the many who have lost their lives, those who have been injured and the many more who have been traumatized by this senseless act of violence. I am at tending a special prayer for the United States and it's people at our main temple today. I am confident that the United States as a great and powerful nation will be able to overcome this present tragedy. The American people have shown their resilience, courage and determination when faced with such difficult and sad situation. It may seem presumptuous on my part, but I personally believe we need to think seriously whether a violent action is the right thing to do and in the greater interest of the nation and people in the long run. I believe violence will only increase the cycle of violence. But how do we deal with hatred and anger, which are often the root causes of such senseless violence? This is a very difficult question, especially when it concerns a nation and we have certain fixed conceptions of how to deal with such attacks. I am sure that you will make the right decision. With my prayers and good wishes The Dalai Lama September 12, 2001 Dharamsala, India

Comment: WE RECIEVED THIS E-MAIL AND AGREED WITH ALL OUR HEART AND SOUL... by Leonard Pitts Jr. of the Miami Herald We'll go forward from this moment It's my job to have something to say. They pay me to provide words that help make sense of that which troubles the American soul. But in this moment of airless shock when hot tears sting disbelieving eyes, the only thing I can find to say, the only words that seem to fit, must be addressed to the unknown author of this suffering. You monster. You beast. You unspeakable bastard. What lesson did you hope to teach us by your coward's attack on our World Trade Center, our Pentagon, us? What was it you hoped we would learn? Whatever it was, please know that you failed. Did you want us to respect your cause? You just damned your cause. Did you want to make us fear? You just steeled our resolve. Did you want to tear us apart? You just brought us together. Let me tell you about my people. We are a vast and quarrelsome family, a family rent by racial, social, political and class division, but a family nonetheless. We're frivolous, yes, capable of expending tremendous emotional energy on pop cultural minutiae -- a singer's revealing dress, a ball team's misfortune, a cartoon mouse. We're wealthy, too, spoiled by the ready availability of trinkets and material goods, and maybe because of that, we walk through life with a certain sense of blithe entitlement. We are fundamentally decent, though -- peace-loving and compassionate. We struggle to know the right thing and to do it. And we are, the overwhelming majority of us, people of faith, believers in a just and loving God. Some people -- you, perhaps -- think that any or all of this makes us weak. You're mistaken. We are not weak. Indeed, we are strong in ways that cannot be measured by arsenals. IN PAIN Yes, we're in pain now. We are in mourning and we are in shock. We're still grappling with the unreality of the awful thing you did, still working to make ourselves understand that this isn't a special effect from some Hollywood blockbuster, isn't the plot development from a Tom Clancy novel. Both in terms of the awful scope of their ambition and the probable final death toll, your attacks are likely to go down as the worst acts of terrorism in the history of the United States and, probably, the history of the world. You've bloodied us as we have never been bloodied before. But there's a gulf of difference between making us bloody and making us fall. This is the lesson Japan was taught to its bitter sorrow the last time anyone hit us this hard, the last time anyone brought us such abrupt and monumental pain. When roused, we are righteous in our outrage, terrible in our force. When provoked by this level of barbarism, we will bear any suffering, pay any cost, go to any length, in the pursuit of justice. I tell you this without fear of contradiction. I know my people, as you, I think, do not. What I know reassures me. It also causes me to tremble with dread of the future. In the days to come, there will be recrimination and accusation, fingers pointing to determine whose failure allowed this to happen and what can be done to prevent it from happening again. There will be heightened security, misguided talk of revoking basic freedoms. We'll go forward from this moment sobered, chastened, sad. But determined, too. Unimaginably determined. THE STEEL IN US You see, the steel in us is not always readily apparent. That aspect of our character is seldom understood by people who don't know us well. On this day, the family's bickering is put on hold. As Americans we will weep, as Americans we will mourn, and as Americans, we will rise in defense of all that we cherish. So I ask again: What was it you hoped to teach us? It occurs to me that maybe you just wanted us to know the depths of your hatred. If that's the case, consider the message received. And take this message in exchange: You don't know my people. You don't know what we're capable of. You don't know what you just started. But you're about to learn.

I am saddened when there is a loss of life and beyond words when it occurs on such a scale. I do feel that this country HAS to do something or it will encourage these extremists to escalate their barbaric acts. What I find is beyond my comprehension is WHY they hate us so much. Americans tend to take for granted the simple freedoms that we have. I think this tragic event has drawn us all together for a common cause. Patriotism is at an all time high. I think most of us realize now that we are not as safe as we once thought on our own soil. I will never again take anything for granted. God bless America.

Comment: I have no words, and for those who know me, that has never been a problem. My heart is heavy and burdened, I have no more tears left to cry. My mind is swept back 10 years as I remember all my friends and dearly loved ones going off to Desert Storm and my feeling of being completey, utterly and totally lost. It was hard to celebrate what is usually a happy time for me and my family, my birthday and my mother's birthday just a few days later. Instead of lighting birthday candles, we lit Novinas. Instead of singing "Happy Birthday", we prayed. We prayed and prayed and prayed as I have never prayed before. I have attended candelite vigils and held my Rosary tight when I felt I couldn't hold on to anything else. I went through my checklist and was elated that all of my friends and family were accounted for. I held my co-worker as she shook in fear at the realization that she may have lost her sister, who works at the Pentagon. I have no more hate in me. All that is left is the small hope that as the days progress, God will give the strength to the rescue workers and miracle after miracle will occur. You see, they can try and take away our buildings, our way of life, even our very lives, but they can NEVER take away our Freedom. Our Freedom is in our hearts, it is an element of our souls and nothing, ever, will take that from us. It is the dirt we walk on, the air we breathe, the water we drink, and we are stronger for it. I want to send my thoughts out to all my friends; Michael, I Love You; Scott, Russ, God Speed, come home soon; Rob, I am so happy you are alright; William, don't travel anymore, okay?; Jeannie, I thank God you were not working on those flights that day, keep your chin up; Grace, JJ, Denise, Jennifer, Lorene, Toni, Dylan, Rob, Dee, thank you for being there when I need you. I am so grateful to have ALL of you in my life. My love out to all of you, too. Your words bring comfort and healing. You are all gifted. And, finally, to those we have lost, "May Your Memories Be Eternal" (Greek Orthodox Blessing).

Comment: I am truly sadden by the recent events that took place this week. To say it was a shock is an understatement. I have found myself looking very closy at these events to try and fathom out why these individuals commited such an act. What where they try to say? Think about what would motivate any individual to take such drastic steps and ask the simple question, why? I am in total agreement with Mike when he said that the plan was quite simple. There is a saying that sometimes people cannot see the woods from the trees. So why did the largest intelligence agency in the world fail to see this? I am reminded of the story of David and Golieth. David managed to fell the great giant with a single small stone. Martin Luther King once said that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. It is fear that causes us to be blind in situations like these, so shall we seek to harm others as they have harmed us? Or do we stand back and ask the question why have they harmed us? Then find the answer using our understand rather than our hatered. It takes more strength to put a gun down that to pick one up as history should have taught us. No good ever came from a conflict. The blame for these events does not rest on the shoulders of one man or one nation or one religion. If time is taken to really study the motivations for these actions we will see that the blame lies with man kind as a whole. The seeds of Fear corruption and greed where planted an very long time ago and as the saying goes you reap what you sow. All my deepest sympathy to all my American friends. Peace Darren Bardsley

Comment: Mike, Thank you for opening up this line. We all need to voice our sadness, our opinions, and our prayers. As a vet of WWII, I can recall the 'sneak' attack then. Japanese sent 'peace' envoys to talk to President Rosevelt then, but at the same time as they were talking peace, their planes were in the air on the way to Pearl Harbor. The difference then and now is that the sneaky attack then was on Military Targets and not on innocent people. In the past few years we have seen the killing of innocent people, just going about their daily lives. The Israelies have suffered, the passangers on planes of several countries have suffered, and now, those who claim that Allah is leading them, have taken innocent lives. I do not believe that Allah, The Great Spirit, Budda, God, or Whoever is the giver of life would decree us to take away life in His/Her name. Humans, over the centuries, have justified wars of territory, greed, attrition, and revenge, but until the past few years mankind has not directly gone to war against innocent mankind. Sure we bombed and obliterated Germany and Japan in WWII because they would not submit to defeat until they were utterly defeated, but that was a last resort to force a surrender so that more innocents would Not be sacrificed. America has never gone to war for the sake of war. We may have made judgemental errors as to why we fought this or that particular enemy, such as Viet Nam. But, for the most part, we have not attacked innocent civilians even though they may be our enemy. To try to force America into some sort of perceived submission, by terrorizing civilians will never work. There is no way to 'kill' American Spirit. There is no way to use 'scare tactics' to beat Americans into submission. We have shown our joint efforts during WWII. Before the sneak attack we were just as diversified in our opinions as we are now. Lindberg, at the time, was a pacifist and went all over speaking against joining the war with England, then the only Country standing alone against the Axis Powers. Many of our politicians were 'selling' peace. We did not really want to go to war then, nor do we now. However war was forced upon us, and now it is forced on us. If someone or group, or country wants to see if we will stand up to them, you can bet we will. we don't want to go out into the world and kill people, but if a group, or country thinks we will take the killing of our innocents, then they have another think coming. We all came together in WWII and have no doubts about it, WE WILL STAND TOGETHER NOW. We may have taken the first kick in the butt, but that only served to get our collective butts together, and push us forward for the defeat of our sneaky enemy.

Comment: I just read the Prayer of Peace posting. I am ambivalent about it. I can see that IF such actions worked to bring peace, how we would all benefit. However, simultaneously, I realize that everyone does not ascribe to the desire for Peace as most Americans define it. To the terrorists, peace will only come when they have given their lives in destroying our democracy.... and any semblance of democracy in the world. I truly believe that even then, if they were able to stamp out all democratic ways of life, they would seek to stamp out ANY OTHER VIEWPOINT NOT THEIR'S. Therefore, I believe the war against the terrorists must be waged with intelligent persistence and swift justice. May those who work to discover the source and succor of the perpetrators of the NY and DC and Pennsylvania air plane hijackings and subsequent deliberate crashes be blessed in their endeavors. May those who would hurt Democracy rue their intentions and be punished appropriately for their attacks against it.

We join with all the millions around the world praying for peace, and for those who have been injured or killed. Please send this out to as many people as you can so we can keep our minds focused on peace. Seven Days of Prayer It took seven to create the world, we now ask you to join us in spending the next seven days recreating it. Wherever you are, join us for the next seven days "FEELING" this new world and praying it into existence. At 9pm EST, 6pm west coast time, from September 11 to 18, simply feel the presence of millions around the world who are praying for all violence to cease. Spend ten minutes in silence each night knowing that we are creating a new world based upon the laws of compassion and peace. Once again, please pass this on to everyone you know. A Letter from Neale, James, James and Doreen: Dear friends around the world… The events of this day cause every thinking person to stop their daily lives, whatever is going on in them, and to ponder deeply the larger questions of life. We search again for not only the meaning of life, but the purpose of our individual and collective experience as we have created it - and we look earnestly for ways in which we might recreate ourselves anew as a human species, so that we will never treat each other this way again. The hour has come for us to demonstrate at the highest level our most extraordinary thought about Who We Really Are. There are two possible responses to what has occurred today. The first comes from love, the second from fear. If we come from fear we may panic and do things-as individuals and as nations-that could only cause further damage. If we come from love we will find refuge and strength, even as we provide it to others. This is the moment of your ministry. This is the time of teaching. What you teach at this time, through your every word and action right now, will remain as indelible lessons in the hearts and minds of those whose lives you touch, both now, and for years to come. We will set the course for tomorrow, today. At this hour. In this moment. Let us seek not to pinpoint blame, but to pinpoint cause. Unless we take this time to look at the cause of our experience, we will never remove ourselves from the experiences it creates. Instead, we will forever live in fear of retribution from those within the human family who feel aggrieved, and, likewise, seek retribution from them. To us the reasons are clear. We have not learned the most basic human lessons. We have not remembered the most basic human truths. We have not understood the most basic spiritual wisdom. In short, we have not been listening to God, and because we have not, we watch ourselves do ungodly things. The message we hear from all sources of truth is clear: We are all one. That is a message the human race has largely ignored. Forgetting this truth is the only cause of hatred and war, and the way to remember is simple: Love, this and every moment. If we could love even those who have attacked us, and seek to understand why they have done so, what then would be our response? Yet if we meet negativity with negativity, rage with rage, attack with attack, what then will be the outcome? These are the questions that are placed before the human race today. They are questions that we have failed to answer for thousands of years. Failure to answer them now could eliminate the need to answer them at all. If we want the beauty of the world that we have co-created to be experienced by our children and our children's children, we will have to become spiritual activists right here, right now, and cause that to happen. We must choose to be at cause in the matter. So, talk with God today. Ask God for help, for counsel and advice, for insight and for strength and for inner peace and for deep wisdom. Ask God on this day to show us how to show up in the world in a way that will cause the world itself to change. And join all those people around the world who are praying right now, adding your Light to the Light that dispells all fear. That is the challenge that is placed before every thinking person today. Today the human soul asks the question: What can I do to preserve the beauty and the wonder of our world and to eliminate the anger and hatred-and the disparity that inevitably causes it - in that part of the world which I touch? Please seek to answer that question today, with all the magnificence that is You. What can you do TODAY...this very moment? A central teaching in most spiritual traditions is: What you wish to experience, provide for another. Look to see, now, what it is you wish to experience-in your own life, and in the world. Then see if there is another for whom you may be the source of that. If you wish to experience peace, provide peace for another. If you wish to know that you are safe, cause another to know that they are safe. If you wish to better understand seemingly incomprehensible things, help another to better understand. If you wish to heal your own sadness or anger, seek to heal the sadness or anger of another. Those others are waiting for you now. They are looking to you for guidance, for help, for courage, for strength, for understanding, and for assurance at this hour. Most of all, they are looking to you for love. We love you, and we send you our deepest thoughts of peace. Neale, James, James and Doreen

Comment: I came across this and this it is worth posting here. It is an open leter to the terrorists. Posted By: Charles Brennan, Windrose 18, So. Florida Date: 9/11/2001 9:07p.m. An open letter to a terrorist: Well, you hit the World Trade Center, but you missed America. You hit the Pentagon, but you missed America. You used helpless American bodies, to take out other American bodies, but like a poor marksman, you STILL missed America. Why? Because of something you guys will never understand. America isn't about a building or two, not about financial centers, not about military centers, America isn't about a place, America isn't even about a bunch of bodies. America is about an IDEA. An idea, that you can go someplace where you can earn as much as you can figure out how to, live for the most part, like you envisioned living, and pursue Happiness. (No guarantees that you'll reach it, but you can sure try!) Go ahead and whine your terrorist whine, and chant your terrorist litany: "If you can not see my point, then feel my pain." This concept is alien to Americans. We live in a country where we don't have to see your point. But you're free to have one. We don't have to listen to your speech. But you're free to say one. Don't know where you got the strange idea that everyone has to agree with you. We don't agree with each other in this country, almost as a matter of pride. We're a collection of guys that don't agree, called States. We united our individual states to protect ourselves from tyranny in the world. Another idea, we made up on the spot. You CAN make it up as you go, when it's your country. If you're free enough. Yeah, we're fat, sloppy, easy-going goofs most of the time. That's an unfortunate image to project to the world, but it comes of feeling free and easy about the world you live in. It's unfortunate too, because people start to forget that when you attack Americans, they tend to fight like a cornered badger. The first we knew of the War of 1812, was when England burned Washington D.C. to the ground. Didn't turn out like England thought it was going to, and it's not going to turn out like you think, either. Sorry, but you're not the first bully on our shores, just the most recent. No Marquis of Queensbury rules for Americans, either. We were the FIRST and so far, only country in the world to use nuclear weapons in anger. Horrific idea, nowadays? News for you bucko, it was back then too, but we used it anyway. Only had two of them in the whole world and we used 'em both. Grandpa Jones worked on the Manhattan Project. Told me once, that right up until they threw the switch, the physicists were still arguing over whether the Uranium alone would fission, or whether it would start a fissioning chain reaction that would eat everything. But they threw the switch anyway, because we had a War to win. Does that tell you something about American Resolve? So who just declared War on us? It would be nice to point to some real estate, like the good old days. Unfortunately, we're probably at war with random camps, in far-flung places. Who think they're safe. Just like the Barbary Pirates did. Better start sleeping with one eye open. There's a spirit that tends to take over people who come to this country, looking for opportunity, looking for liberty, looking for freedom. Even if they misuse it. The Marielistas that Castro emptied out of his prisons, were overjoyed to find out how much freedom there was. First thing they did when they hit our shores, was run out and buy guns. The ones that didn't end up dead, ended up in prisons. You guys seem to be incapable of understanding that we don't live in America, America lives in US! American Spirit is what it's called. And killing a few thousand of us, or a few million of us, won't change it. Most of the time, it's a pretty happy-go-lucky kind of Spirit. Until we're crossed in a cowardly manner, then it becomes an entirely different kind of Spirit. Wait until you see what we do with that Spirit, this time. Sleep tight, if you can. We're coming for you!!!!

I understand you're all incredibly upset, shocked, scared, and sad, but please, don't let hate win. Don't meet violence with violence. Do find the guilty ones, try them, and sentence them. What I DON'T want is a World War III. Please, don't let it come to that. I know my view is different from the views shown here so far, but I do believe violence isn't the solution. Love and prayers to you all.

Comment: The events on the 11th September in the USA was a predictable event, unlike so many others in the past in various parts of the world, there is always a story leading up to that point of crisis. It does not really matter what the cause was or is, what matters is that in human relations, each individual has a breaking point. That breaking point is a two way switch, and depends very much on character and resolve which course of action happens. With the more negative one, a person becomes very angry, bigoted and blind and most of all, full of fear. The one thing that is always missing, is reasoning and intelligence and therefore the fear becomes a paranoia and over a period of time, becomes very destructive in that human being. A point is reached in this sequence of events where the person either has a severe nervous breakdown which would be classed as severe depression, or simply kills himself. If that character is still juvenile in their thinking, then taking one’s life though often talked about, will seldom be carried out. In its place that person lives in a world of illusion, self-deceit and blames everybody else in the world particularly those closest to them for their failure to cope with everything. In short, they live in a world of lies, fear and a continuous negative destruction of what character is present. The second pathway is one of cold resolve. In this instance, the human closes down all emotions except a suicidal need for revenge. That is how the world will see them. However the individual themselves is simply saying, "I have had enough, I will take no more, I will get justice". Usually this person will link their behaviour to some religious organisation, though not always, for all they need is a driving force and focal point. This individual will have suffered the loss of family, or close friends, always in a situation where no justice appears to be present. Currently, the Arab/Israeli conflict is one where the first division is Islam v Christianity. Unfortunately that is only the surface, for beneath this simple antagonism is a difference in lifestyles, thinking and age of that particularly society . The individual has closed down all forms of emotion and replaced it with a cold, calculating driving force which knows no boundaries to obtaining the necessary goal. This level of fanaticism is not likely to be found in the West to any great degree. In fact, probably only two cases of such fanatical behaviour have come out of Germany in the last 30 years. However, if one looks at the Arab and Asian countries, then there are many incidents where we call suicide groups are prevalent. These people are prepared to die for a cause which they believe completely to be of value. They cannot be persuaded of threatened by anything others can do to them. For once a person accepts they are prepared to die, there is no method of controlling them. For instance, we in the Western World would consider that individuals such as this might think twice if you threatened to kill their family or to destroy their country. It is not an argument which they will accept or believe. If for no other reason than it is impossible to destroy any country in the world today without a death toll arising out with that country. If for instance one did destroy a country, which would not be successful, then the survivors would become terrorists and even worse still, fanatics. Modern civilisation does not lend itself to massive security. Modern human behaviour lacks the discipline and the objectivity to measure up to the necessary daily high security that would be required to control terrorist outbreaks. In short as you will see, measures taken throughout the world at this moment in time, will be extreme and over-reactive, but within the month, human carelessness will leave any security leaking like a sieve. Man is neither disciplined enough, careful enough or basically intelligent enough to live in a controlled, diligent environment, and it will not be long before their need for daily pleasures and making money, will overtake them again. The modern society is vulnerable in the air, on the ground and in the sea, as has been witnessed, destruction is excessive because of modern building techniques, high rise buildings and over crowded cities. So what is the cause or causes of such behaviour in the world today? There is no simple answer to this, but one could list the three most obvious ones which are greed, corruption and bigotry. These make up man’s failure to develop his intelligence to a level of understanding of human nature itself and the differences in societies because of their geographical position, their history in terms of age versus youth, and unfortunately, their views and attitudes towards religion. Our world is divided into three major religions. The two most prominent being Christianity and the Muslim religion. The third grouping consists of the various Hindu religions, Jews and many smaller miscellaneous religions in various parts of the world. Complete misunderstanding between the two major religions of Christianity and Muslim and the fact that void is filled by bigotry is the principal cause of death and destruction, both in the past, the present and into the future. It is necessary to look behind all the infrastructures of our world and see the real truth, that man’s inadequacy due to his fear, his bigotry and his greed decide world events, not just as they are happening, but long into the future. The complexity of this problem in itself would take a major book to put together this massive jigsaw of man’s desire for self-destruction. But if one actually looks at the over-riding causes for instance greed, Iraq invaded Kuwait to steal their oil production. The Western world retaliated and took back that oil production so as not to be blackmailed by dictatorship. We could be forgiven for wondering at such a reasoning. Of course, human nature being as it is, the Western world claimed the high moral ground of saving a country from a dictatorship. In terms of bigotry, we are surrounded by that. Even our religions who claim the high moral ground in human affairs are guilty of the worst bigotry, in that in their own way mostly they each claim that only through their religion does one come to God. Corruption has many meanings. But corruption starts within oneself by lying to oneself or to others. This corrupts the purity of your essences and becomes a vicious circle because one lie leads to another and very quickly you are lying to others to cover up your own inner corruption which eventually shows in your behaviour. It is the start of a long slippery slope because it leads to petty theft, false image, for the more you lie to yourself and to others, so the more you build a false image of yourself that people can see. This is usually high in ego and inflated self opinion, low in truth and recessive in character. Of course, corruption grows higher in terms of reward. Cheating becomes a way of life for far too many and this introduces self-justification and self-denial. So in reality, instead of growing forward by valid use of intelligence and character, you self-destruct and lose the true image of who you really are. This message is not an easy message to grasp or understand and may take many readings by each of you to know why our modern world is so sick and why each individual is developing an ever-increasing mode of unhappiness. What one is talking about here in all its complexity, is the fact that most people are driven by fear as a base to their behaviour. At one end this comes out as arrogance and ego, and an unwillingness to learn or face truth, whilst at the other extreme the person lacks character, stability, drive or any sign of progressive intelligence. Man is meant to live on this earth and to learn so that he can live in happiness, inner contentment and fulfilment. To this end, a progressive personality and character is the way forward in life. The message above is not one that you can look at and say, "it does not apply to me", for each individual must ask themselves, are they bigoted, judgemental, greedy or narrow-minded? Just as a few examples. For the reality is, if one does not grow one’s character in a progressive way then each individual will slowly destroy their ability to enjoy and live a worthwhile life. The above message about the state of mankind will make some more gloomy and even frightened, but the reality is the world today is moving towards the need and desire to accomplish some personal growth in life on an individual basis. To this extent any human being who develops a true spiritual belief in God will continue to rise above the darkness that is spreading across our world even as we write. I send you once again the simple message of truth, "God is Love". And where God truly is, so the light of that love will raise man to a state of happiness and fulfilment even when surrounded by the darkness that has become the growing despair on our planet today. I send all of you my love. It is too bad that the terrorists come here to use our freedoms in trying to destroy what we have. I am shure that our government, with help from the other countries will do what has to be done and eradicate terrorism here and elsewhere We do have a great neighbor -Canada! My email to our president: Subj: 20,000+ OR 30,000 Casualtis? To: President@Whitehouse.gov Dear Honorable President of USA: First honor our God in the Constitution Then tell the harboring nations to turn over the culprits to us for justice. if that does not occur in (-) hours, you must evacuate all your women and children from your cities, because they will be destroyed. Your communications, railroads, all the infrastructures will also be destroyed. We all are descendants of Abraham, we have the same God, the maker of heaven and earth so please honor this request.- Then, if no results, do it, hit the command centers and rest, and pray.

My bosses want us to come back to work and be strong and show these people that they can't terrorize us. What about mourning? We should all be mourning and not just hiding in our homes or trying to escape. We should be showing them that we are human and that we are mourning all the people that have been lost here. There is not one person who hasn't been touched by this tragedy in this city and we should be showing that to the world. Not our ignorance and our bombs and weapons.

Comment: Michael, thank you for setting this up and thank those of you who have been here to comment. This has been such a horrendous and traumatic two days .. but at the same time a marvelous time of unity and support and love, caring, and concern for others. Americans have long led the way for all countries to have a model for democracy .. for allowing people to practice free speech and all of the other "rights" that were fought for and earned for us by our forefathers and foremothers *S* .. and we have willingly shared our prosperity and freedoms with whoever wished to come to America to live. Some have chosen to become citizens .. others have done nothing but feel that they were owed more than what they were being allowed to learn and earn ... and those insignificant festers of our society who actually committed this terrible and heartbreaking terrorist action paid with their lives. Those who are responsible for the overall plan shall pay with their lives as well. For they shall reap what they have sown and I hope that their deaths are slow and painful with plenty of time for them to regret they ever thought to hurt our wonderful country and those families who have lost loved ones or are still unsure if their loved ones live or not. May God grant us all the ability to cope with whatever may happen now. May God give strength to those who continue to toil looking for survivors and bodies and skill to those who strive to repair the broken bodies brought to them. May God Bless America and all Americans!

I've been watching the news continuously for 2 days now and I'm feeling pretty bummed about all that has happened. I am just glad that the world will not stand for these actions. The U.S.A. is a country that is very respected by the majority of the countries of the world. And there is no doubt that many nations will bind together to do all they can to stand up for the freedom of the U.S.A.

And then in set in that this was very real, and America would never be the same again. I am honored that my fellow Americans have stood tall, and I am proud of the New Yorkers for standing the tallest in a time of such grief. I am proud to be one of such amazing people, and this land that has given us so much. I will let my government handle this, for I believe in this case we can put our faith in them, they will not let us down. I will buy a black ribbon tomorrow, and wear it to show my sorrow for so many that lost their lives, and I will also wear a white one for so many that are heroes, those that are working tirelessly to save the people and for those that it seems died, saving others. God bless this land, and Gos bless American people !!

Comment: I hope that the officials take time to find out who REALLY is behind the actions of yesterday. There are many subversive groups here in USA to take into consideration. I am so sorry for all the hurting - both physical and mental - that so many are going through. The terrible time of burning, leaping to their death, being cut by flying glass, the agony of that time is imprinted on the very atmosphere of New York, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania. I also think that the arrogance of man should be taken into consideration. The World Trade Center with its 110 or however many floors reminded me of the Tower of Babel. Man trying to outdo God or Spirit. Yes, we should look within - for each one of us who becomes money hungry, success hungry, superiority hungry - placing these things above Spirit, eventually are brought to their knees. As horrible as this terrorist attack has been, it may cause people to open their hearts and minds and souls to Spirit again and learn to love each other more than money and careers, often attained at someone elses expense. I lit my candle last night as asked and felt the love, bonding and healing energy go out to those who were suffering so. May God Bless each one of us and send us and our country healing.

Comment: Mike, While I echo your sentiments, I take more violent and revengful view. I feel there are three things that should be done immediately or as soon as possible. 1. Identify any groups or individuals in the US that were part of the cell that supported these terrorists. Once identified, they should be executed. Not tried, or given any publicity, just exectuted. 2. Find the ones in any country that support terrorist policies and execute them immediataly. 3. Identify the countries that provide training, support, and money to terrorists, and nuke them back to the stone age. When I say "identify a group", I mean identify to the point of knowing this group *may* have been involved. Not to the point of proving it in a court of law. By their cowardly, inhumane action, these scum have removed themselves from any right to humane treatment. This I feel is a minimum respose. A last thing should be the immediate expulsion of any islamic group or mid-east group now operating in the US. Harsh? yes. Deliberatly so. We just lost more lives, more men, women, and yes children than any other time in US history. We lost around 2,000 dead in Pearl Harbor, almost 2,000 dead during the Normandy Invasion. Here we are told expected deaths are in the tens of thousands. --- This is WAR! ---

These shock waves are felt world wide, and it could have been my town, my loved ones, my life. All of these things are special to me and to others. What right does some manic have to disturb the peace and tranquility that we have the right to enjoy. We must take action to preserve that right. Yesterday I was in shock and fearful, today I mourn and cry for all who have died, all who have survivied to see the horror and cry for myself, for I have lost the sense of security that I think I thought would never be penetrated in my country. Naive I suppose, but I was not alone.

Comment: It is past time to reorganize the CIA and the FBI and the State Department back to the attitudes and policies of World War Two. The passifistic liberal attitudes we have today are a great factor in the situation we are in today. As we have seen now, we are not immune to attack and it is time we Americans quit worrying about retaliation.
