The Real Heart In Me

By Bruce Clifford

I could have embraced this world
But it's not easy being me
They shot me down for much of my life
Now I'm fighting back to find the real heart in me
The real heart in me

I could have risen up through the ranks
But for so very long I was standing still
They took control and never gave thanks
All these memories still make me ill
They went for the kill

The real heart in me

The real heart in me is brave
The real heart in me knows how to love
The real heart in me was saved
The real heart in me watches out for me from above

I could have understood all reason and time
But it was never easy being me
Now I'm fighting back just to get out alive
And I'm still searching for that missing part of me
The real heart in me

The real heart in me

The real heart in me is brave
The real heart in me knows how to love
The real heart in me was saved
The real heart in me watches out for me from above

I could have embraced this world
But it's not easy being me
They shot me down for much of my life
Now I'm fighting back to find the real heart in me
The real heart in me
