Gecko Strut

By Clara Blair

On padded toes
The gecko goes
Up the window screen
In the steamy night.

In the darkened room,
A thud and a boom.
Cat leaps from the bed
To the window sill.

With padded paws
That have no claws,
Cat bats the shape
Bobbing on the pane.

Cat can kiss my butt.
Watch this Gecko strut.
He can't catch me
Through the glass.

Left my tail before
On some kitchen floor
When I stupidly
Went inside.

But I ain't no fool.
It just ain't cool
To be a cat's
Midnight snack.

It's nice outside,
Night's dark and wide.
Cat can just watch
This Gecko strut.
