How Can I Say No?

By John I. Blair

Far more than half my life
We've been as one,
First by the prime force
With which you drew me
When we met,
And then for all this time
The long, strong meld
Of minds and souls-
Oh joy of love!

And yet, my wife,
The down side
Of our nice state of grace
Comes when you ask
To get just one more ring,
One band with gem or pearl
Of price, to deck
Your so soft hand, for
How can I say no?
