Driving To Darrouzett

By John I. Blair

Triangulate on Darrouzett
Where Highway 15
Crosses Plummer Creek
Near the trestle on the railroad.

Out on the lonesome plains
Of Lipscomb County, Texas,
Just across the line from Oklahoma,
Darrouzett endures past all the years.

It was “the best-paved town
(Per capita) in the Panhandle”
With a dozen stores, two churches,
School and post office, last report.

But I doubt the Deutsches Fest
Is still observed there,
Although I never bet against
The dogged staying power of desperate people.
