There was a Time

By Bruce Clifford

There was a time you could have known me
There was a time we could have been
There was a chance we could have taken
There was that moment we had the chance to begin

There was the heart that opens dangerously
There was the purity of the unfulfilled
There was the call to every crossroad
There was a life we wanted to build

Where are we now
Where are we going
Where have we been
All these years gone by

I think I knew once a long time ago
But the image of your face I no longer know
I think you knew me before the world had changed
Now we face the fire in a room full of rage
Like being locked in the cage

There was the heart that opens dangerously
There was the purity of the unfulfilled
There was the call to every crossroad
There was a life we wanted to build

Comment: Few things are as lost as first chances, I guess. But remember we're still getting first chances, even in old age. Just different ones.
