Lump In My Throat

By John I. Blair

A sore throat
That would not heal,
Consultations, probes.
Then, two months later,
This stitched line,
This lump.

I sit here numb,
Lost feeling in my fingers
Lips, forehead, nose,
Reeling still
After a week.
My shocked body
Trying once again to function
As it once so effortlessly did.

Life changes –
The only certainty
Said the sages.

Look to each day,
Find the joy
In every moment,
Make it last for ages.
