Just Around The Corner

By John I. Blair

You nap restlessly,
Stoked by dreams
That steal up
Out of memories
Which never happened.

Just around the corner
I sit as restlessly,
Gleaning once again
Through words that never tell
Exactly what I feel.

We seem apart,
You on nightmare’s bed,
Me, back and head one ache,
Chasing meaning
That I never catch,

Two minds, two bodies.
Yet matched so close
That I hear you cry,
Run to your side,
Although you never spoke.
