Links

By John I. Blair

I do not term them ties
(Ties sound so constricting),
But links, connecting
Friend to friend,
Lover to lover;
Turning isolates
Into a chain of being.
How precious each day
Just to place a call,
To send a card,
To make a letterbox clink
Or e-mail ring,
To lend ourselves,
Extend ourselves
And touch each other.
I think there is
No trivial way
To do this thing.
