Pain Revisited

By John I. Blair

Too often pain’s
The price of beauty.

Sitting at the keyboard playing Mozart
I find my limit growing ever shorter
Before the nagging neurons in my spine
Forbid I should continue
My lifelong quest to seek his soul out
And converse.

How much worse
To find pain also is the price
Of friendship,
The price of love.
