Before it Began

By Bruce Clifford

All that’s left is a memory or two
A brief reminder of a love we once knew
All that we lost could never be found
In a blink of an eye things went tumbling down

Day after day I remember how it was
The look in your eyes when you said we were done
Night after night I toss and turn and think
I try to remember how we lost it all in a blink

It was over before it began
It was too late for us to find our way
We never had a chance to walk hand in hand
It was over before it began

All that’s left are the promises we made
Now there's a distance we will take to our graves
In one flashing moment our paths took their separate ways
How did we fail our dreams and the plans that we made

It was over before it began
It was too late for us to find our way
We never had a chance to walk hand in hand
It was over before it began

All that’s left is what was in our dreams
We took our chances and tossed them out to sea
Night after night i think how it could have been
I try to remember it was over before it could begin
