The High Road

By Bruce Clifford

So you think it’s alright to come back into my life
Haunting me
Taunting me

If you can’t let the old things go you’re better off alone
Hating me
Disrespecting me

I took the high road so many years ago
I found my freedom and learned to let you go
I don’t understand why you can’t do the same
I guess it’s all the memories to blame

I took the high road and I got out
It doesn’t mean I don’t think about
The way we were, what could have been
I took the high road
The only road to ride again

So you think it’s alright to come back into my life
You think it’s okay to let the past get in the way
You never learned to let the old past go
I guess it’s the only way that you know

But I took the hight road so many years ago
I found my peace and I learned to live and grow
I don’t understand why you can’t do the same
I guess it’s all the memories to blame

I took the high road and I got out
It doesn’t mean I don’t think about
The way we were, what could have been
I took the high road
The only road to ride again
