Vampire

By John I. Blair

Sometimes I feed off others
Like a vampire on his prey

Except instead of blood
I need companionship,

Words that I can hear
From faces I can see.

Old age alone
Is misery, is endless night.

I’ll dare the daylight
To defeat it.
