Drive By

By John I. Blair

A friend drove by my house
The other day – he said
To scope out where I dwell.

To his surprise he learned
My house is hard to find
Behind vines, shrubs, trees,

As if it tells of hidden life,
As if that life reflects mine,
Cloaked by leaves;

What was once an ordinary place
Now guarded by a verdant spell
By butterflies, birds, bees.
