I Hope

By Phillip Hennessy

I Hope. . .

I Hope this war is swift, and brief
I hope that those who die Believe
I hope that those who kill them, see
the tears and grief of each Family

The sons who will grow up without guidance
just the Hate they have for their fathers' killer
wondering when it will be Their turn to die
at the hands of a faceless, foreign Foe
with whom they have no argument, or feeling

The daughters who will have children
That have no Grandparents to talk to
To tell them how wonderful Life can be
And that War is such a shameful Waste
a Criminal Act that defies all Understanding
