Freedom To Vote

By John I. Blair

This freedom is of greatest note,
The one on which all others rest,
The one we all possess
The hour we come of age,
The one that gives
Each man and woman
The power to decide each year
Who runs our land, and how.

But yet so many now
Through negligence or pride
Or ignorance or fear
Will abdicate this birthright;
And if you're in that group
How can you say you're free
Or criticize if things go wrong
When what is wrong is that you did not vote?
