You Can't Take Away My Soul

By Bruce Clifford

You can rob me of my words
Take from me my thoughts
Take away the sunlight on a clear, hot summer day

You can steal my strength and courage
Make me feel like no other
Take away my cover from the thunder and the rain

But you can't take my soul
You can have everything else that I own
You can't take my soul away from my heart
You can't take my soul
You can take away everyone else I know
You can't take my soul away from my heart

You can take away my loneliness
Take away my emptiness
Take away the freedom that we should have once kept

You can take my sense of direction
Take away my religion
You can take away the memories that I would only forget

But you can't take my soul
You can have everything else that I own
You can't take my soul away from my heart
You can't take my soul
You can take away everyone else I know
You can't take my soul away from my heart
