The Flag at My Doorstep
John I. Blair
First thing I greet as I step out
To get my morning paper
And last to meet when I come home:
Old Gloryís draped beneath my eaves,
Day and night, by sun, moon, stars,
In midday heat or evening dew.
It may appear a patriotic shout
Or reactionary flaunt;
Itís neither of those things.
Iím just a free American
Who wants the world to know
Itís my flag too.
