In Love with Life

By John I. Blair

How will I last for long,
Weather all the messy days,
If I don’t dance in courtship
To each moment I’m alive?

I can’t get past on chance,
Ignore life, cut it cold;
If I shirk the detail work
I’ll shuck the best of my existence.

I’ll insist, deny resistance,
Seize life whole, intact,
Plant my toes, my nails, my teeth,
And hook on like a burr.

Life so warrants my dementia,
My pursuing to the limit,
I shall just become life’s lover;
It will miss me when I’m gone.
