Shoes

By John I. Blair

While they’re still warm
And stink from feet,
My cat loves to shove
His blunt pink nose
Deep down in my shoes.

I think he imagines
Somehow he will own me
When he’s caught the part
Of my immortal essence
That dwells between my toes.
