When You're Not Near

By Bruce Clifford

It's silent when you don't care
So very quiet when you're not near
Violent is the depths of my heart
It stays this way when we're apart

It's windy in the afternoon
Another hour it will be noon
The lake is calm the sky is clear
I'm in this pain cos you're not near

The sun so high up in the clouds
Your smile imprinted on my brain
We fight back with all the things we fear
I'm in this pain cos you're not near

    Help me understand your tears
Help me understand why we are this way

It's breezy in the morning air
Another day of pain and despair
The ocean view is crystal clear
But I'm in this pain cos you're not near

I wonder where you'll always be
I don't what you expect of me
My heart is tired and my mind is gone
With or without you I will carry on

The sun so high up in the clouds
Your smile imprinted on my brain
We fight back with all the things we fear
I'm in this pain cos you're not near

    Help me understand your tears
Help me understand why we are this way
