You Didn't Know Me

By Bruce Clifford

Getting caught up in the build up
Machines big and small as far as I can see
Can you hear me
Are you with me
We are so sick and tired of this blind insanity

Getting caught up in the mix up
I heard on the news a soldier died today
Can you hear me
Are you responding
How much more can we take before we fall flat on our face

You didn't know me before the radiation took my brain
You didn't know me during the peace and before all this waste
You didn't know me before the oxygen was gone
Before the battle of Timbuktu was fought
Before time and space was overdue and ignored

Getting caught up in the pile up
Last night I had a dream that none of this was true
Can you hear me
Can you save me
I can't get out of this alone, I need you and you and you

You didn't know me before we punched a hole through the sky
You didn't know me before there was a difference between day and night
You didn't know me before the oceans were bone dry
Before the new born infants cried
Before the trees and flowers died
