Living On The Surface

By John I. Blair

Too much time I waste
Living on the surface,
Touching life’s dry husk
With no deeper probing.

A slave to doubt, pain evader,
I settle for the promise
And tell myself fruition might be
More than I can hope for.

But if I’m brave enough to wait,
Life will unfurl like a flower
And I can slip inside
Where nectar dwells.
