Sitting Here Surprised

By Bruce Clifford

We met on the school yard
You took things way too hard
We battled and we ignored
Then gave up when we got bored

The fine line and the twist
All the things we couldn't resist
The journeys we never could take
Still waiting for that one break

Sitting here far less surprised than I used to be
Got this jiggered feeling hanging over me
Living for the wreck between hearts and battle lines
Sitting here waiting for reasons, sitting here surprised

We went down to the beach
Walked through the town in our reach
Simple signs could mean a lot
When you look at all the things you've got

We gathered dust and things felt fine
Waiting for the rain and wasting our time
We battled and we ignored
Then gave up when we got bored

Sitting here far less surprised than I used to be
Got this jiggered feeling hanging over me
Living for the wreck between hearts and battle lines
Sitting here waiting for reasons, sitting here surprised

We met on the school yard
You took things way too hard
We battled and we ignored
Then gave up when we got bored
