Mars by Starlight

By John I. Blair

It’s after midnight, late;
And looking through the trees
Beyond my garden

I see the dot of Mars
Accentuate an open space
Between their limbs.

How can an entire world
Whirl through time
Six billion years

And yet be just a dot?
As with the stars around it
The answer is, perspective.
