Sometimes

By John I. Blair

Sometimes
With all the best intentions
Things don’t work out.

Though I may cry and shout
The stars do not align,
The dice don’t fall right.

I might claim to know
What I’m about
But evidence shows otherwise.

It shows I’m not in full command
Of others or myself;
It also shows,

I hope and pray,
That at the end of every day
When night is near

I still can deal with doubt.
