Consciousness

By John I. Blair

Consciousness is a big word
For knowing there’s a me
Or at the very least
Accepting that illusion.

Scarce a day goes by
When I’m not surprised
Contemplating my existence
And the fact that it will end.

What I can’t truly realize
Is what that means
Or the consequences
For the world I love so much.
