Point of View

“A Believe It Or Not” look at some recent news.

  • A New York Times sub-head the day after the second wave of London bombings read: “….but Muslims fear a backlash.” Gee, I wonder why?

  • Despite all that's going on in London the BBC never ever labels anyone a "terrorist!" The acts themselves are called terrorism, but the perpetrators are called "evil" or "suicide bombers" or just plain "bombers." The same format holds true for every British newspaper (about a dozen) I've been able to check on line. When I went to school, people who believed in Fascism were called fascists, ditto for Catholicism and Catholics; not to mention Judaism and Jews. This is not just a semantic quirk, it's a shameful, carefully thought out policy by the media of "this [heretofore] Sceptre'd Isle."

  • And in the same vein, have you noticed that the New York Times now refers to al-Zarqawi as "a Jordanian militant," no longer as a terrorist. Perhaps if that inhuman monster lops off another dozen or so heads the Times will reconsider. Then again, I doubt it.

  • And finally this from deep in the bowels of political correctness we learn that when the New York City police examine packages at a subway stop an officer is assigned to monitor and list the ethnic makeup of the people whose backpacks are searched to avoid being sued for racial profiling. Three cheers for the ACLU.
