Love and Lust

By M. Jay Mansfield

I am drunk from Love & Lust…
Passion's flames fill my wings with smoke…
I soar higher, covered in the sweet soot it produces…
I breathe it in and I become it…
Love & Lust…
I am that bridge…
I am also its sacrifice…
The last cattail engulfed by the wildfire…
The first spark on the canyon's dry floor…
The eagle screams in passion…
Passion of war, of lust, of love…
The fire fills him…
And he shares it…
With a lusty grin and a hearty laugh…
Is it mirth or death he sees…
Neither really seem to faze him…
He rides their flames upward …
Happy with destiny…
And a foe of fate…
A kind gentleman…
A boisterous cavalier…
How can you see his pain…
When he loves it so dear…
A Victim of love and lust…
He grins ear to ear…
