Love: the Word

By M. Jay Mansfield

In word and thought....
the word that was never said...
yet struck the heart...
many many days.....
so many People ...
so many ways...
the word never said....
The unknowing thought it was dead....
looking high...
Lofty thought's couldn't bring it.....
Looking low.......
so underestimated it.........
how could you say it and destroy it.....
no better off to stay silent.....
deny that it exists.....
so many lonely nights spent......
looking into it’s eyes....
and never seeing it.......
looking right back at you......
such a word...
that we refuse to speak...
a mysterious word.....
what a thing that we strive to keep...
a secret so tame....
a horrible truth....
It is so real it shames.....
It scares and delights......
so simply....
yet we fight.....
make it so hard so get to....
even right in front of us..
a simple word...
elegant soft.......
wanting to give it ..
but who will accept...
we shudder and tremble....
with regret.....
we keep it hidden.....
shaken and scared......
so simple.....
