Fortress of Solitude

By M. Jay Mansfield

Where is my fortress of solitude?
My heavenly meals last respite…
Before I peel and eat those savory wings…
my sorceress of follitude*….
My carnal selfs tasty treat…
Where are all these things of mine
Promised to me
Promised at TV time
All these things that I should have..
My wispy woman and mountain hideaways…
Fantastic teeth and cars to drive…
Where are all these things of mine….
I’ve done my job like the boss man said…
Where is my Calgon filled whirlpool…
My lounge chair by an Olympic pool…
Where is my scenic view…
I bought the Cereal with the secret ring…
I bought my Super clothes…..
God where is my Fortress of solitude?
Where is my Remax perfect house…
My perfect dog and smiling neighbors?..
I’ve bought every line the Teachers taught…
I bowed my head as the Preachers wrought…
The words crashed upon my soul…
Beating me down and teaching me all…
Just ..
Where is my fortress of solitude…
My perfect smile…
My Swedish maid..
Where are the spoils …
Of the American way…

* ok.. Follitude is a word of my creation… a state of merriment and folly
