True Love is like a Fine Perfume

By John I. Blair

True Love is like a Fine Perfume
At first the heady topnotes
Rush the senses and the mind.
Then the fuller body twines
Around your consciousness,
Stroking all the pleasure spots.

And with the crush of time,
When other elements
May flee or fade
The ground, the base
Will linger, clinging stubbornly
To everything you know,
A fundamental part
Of your existence.

2004 John I. Blair
