You Look Younger!

By John I. Blair

“You look younger!”
My vanity
Mistrusting what I’d heard,
I cupped my ear and asked again
With rapt anticipation.

“You look younger than your age”
She said, the cashier at the market
As she took my check for groceries
And perused my driver’s license.

Then she added, “Or at least you did
Before you held your hand
Beside your head!”
