Fan Fic - Part 1

By Brooke Clifford

"She's not going to come back… I'm sorry," a man said, as he compressed a young girl's chest in the sand.

Another male stood over him, seeming both emotionally and physically crushed, "Don't tease me!" he cried, staring at the girl as her raven hair danced in the sand.

"I'm sorry, but I'm not teas-"

A hand grabbed his wrist which was still in a compressing position, "What... Do you think… You're doing?" the girl asked, as both men jumped.

"Li!" the male who was standing shouted, throwing his arms around her, "You're alive!" He turned to the man who helped her, "Thanks, --" he broke off, not sure -what- the man's name was.

"Jack Sheppard. Doctor Jack Sheppard," the doctor said with a smile, helping the girl up.

"What happened?" she asked, leaning on Jack for support.

"We were in a plane crash and apparently, we're 1000 miles off course..." Jack said, swallowing his words.

"No kiddin'?!" the other male asked.

'Li' looked at him, "I don't think anyone in their right mind would kid about this, Nick." She then turned to Jack, "I'm Lianna Darkwood, and this is my companion Nick Kaster."

Jack nodded, helping her sit down, "You're going to be okay here? I'm going to go help others out," he said before turning to Nick, "If you need anything, or anything happens to you two, come find me." And with that, he went off to search for others who needed his help.

"Isn't this just perfect?" Lianna cursed in a sarcastic tone, sighing deeply as Nick sat next to her.

"Do you think it's The Jynx?" he asked, taking a pendant necklace from his shirt. It was a Celtic pendant, stained a deep, midnight purple.

"Maybe… But, so long as we're here, you shouldn't show that to anyone. Lest you'd be burned at the stake," Lianna said quietly, taking out her own pendant, colored midnight blue.

"Oh? But what about The Forseer? Surely they would like to know their future, regardless of the price others have to pay."

"How will they know if we don't tell them?" Nick asked after a bit of a pause, "But… Did you know -this- was coming?"

"I… Had a bad feeling when we got onto the plane, and I only saw vague flashes of this. I just… Never put the pieces of the puzzle together."

Night slowly came, and a count of around 43 survivors came around. Lianna and Nick sat together, as Jack approached them, "Some luggage washed on shore if you want to see if it's yours," he said, leading them to a small collection of luggage. After searching, they found one of their bags. "Hopefully more will come soon," Jack said.

Nick nodded happily, "Thanks… For everything."

"It's not a problem, really," Jack said, as Lianna walked into the ocean, staring into the horizon. "So, what do you do for a living?" Jack asked, trying to make small talk.

"Well, Li's a writer, though she does mostly poetry, and I'm a Jack-of-All-Trades. My latest is a photographer."

"That's interesting. Did you bring your camera onto the plane?"

"Alas, I did. Gone, gone away, it has. Stolen by those dratted Sea Nymphs…" Nick cried rather dramatically. "It's a good thing I didn't pay for it, though," He added with a smile, making Jack laugh.

Another man soon came up to the luggage pile. "Can I help you?" Jack asked.

The man looked at him, "No, I don't need your help," he barked, seeming rather angry.

Lianna came from walking, very relaxed in nature. Nick looked at the man, "Are you sure?"

"I'm damn sure," the man said, throwing the last of the luggage on the ground. Apparently none of it was his.

"Well, it looks like we're going to be here for a bit, so we might as well introduce ourselves," Nick said, sticking his hand out toward the stranger, "I'm Nick, that's Li, and that's Dr. Jack."

He paused, as Lianna glared at her friends before turning toward the stranger, "It's Lianna to -you-," she spat coldly.

"And to -you-, it's Sawyer, Mouthpiece," He spat right back at her. "Don't get me angry; you won't live very long if you do," she growled.

"Oh, and what are you going to do, hiss at me?" he challenged.

Lianna stared him in the eye for a moment, before storming off angrily. Jack was about to go after her, but Nick held him back. "Don't worry about Li; she gets like this around strangers. But she'll be alright!"

He watched, as Sawyer left, muttering something about 'too much happiness.'

Lianna sat before the ocean's reach, watching it attempt to snatch her over and over again. She sighed, taking out The Forseer, and gripping it tightly.

"You okay?" Jack asked as he came up next to her, "You seemed upset. … What's that? A pendant?" he asked, eyes staring at The Forseer, as she put it back in her shirt.

"Yeah, it's Celtic. But I'm okay. I was just… annoyed, I guess," she said quietly.

Jack gave a small smile. "You knew Nick before the flight, right?"

"… Yeah. We've known each other since high school. He was the only person who saw me as more than 'that creepy gothic freak.' People… Can be very cruel, sometimes," she whispered, more to herself than to Jack.

He merely stared at her, as she continued to speak, "I don't understand why people have to be so judgmental of others, just by how they look. People always say, 'don't judge a book by its cover' but they're so hypocritical. It… Makes me angry," Her body curled up, eyes slowly losing.

Jack got up, finding Nick to tell him that Li was sleeping.

It was in the middle of the night, everyone was asleep, when it happened. Lianna woke up, rather frightened, and she shook Nick awake. "Nick!" she cried, "The Forseer! It haunted my dreams!"

Nick got up, putting an arm around her, "Don't worry… Everything will be okay, right? … Right?" he asked, now unsure what The Forseer had shown her.

"People are going to die, or nearly. That Sawyer guy and three others will be on a raft when it explodes. A lady will give birth. A man will be on a small plane when it crashes, and dies afterwards. Someone will be shot, another hanged."

"We should tell Jack about this, Li," Nick whispered.

"No! I don't want anyone fearing what The Forseer has cursed me to see. All I can say is that mistakes will be made. A voice told me so."

"What the hell are you two yellin' about?!" Sawyer asked, sitting up and glaring at them, "You plannin' to wake up the whole damned neighborhood or something?"

"I-we're sorry! Li just… had a nightmare…" Nick hastily apologized, Lianna giving a small sigh of relief for Nick's quick cover up.

"Yeah, well tell Mouthpiece to stay quiet when she gets a 'nightmare.'"

"Go to hell, Sawyer!" she shouted, getting annoyed again.

He stood up, walked over to her and picked Lianna up by her shirt, "Don't tell me what to do, got it?" he asked, dropping her on the ground with a thud, before heading back to his sleeping spot.

Nick held back Lianna, who was about to go after Sawyer. "Let him go, Li. He's not worth it," he whispered.

Lianna growled, "He's -so- annoying! I want to wring his neck!"

"Don't, though. Especially with me around," he said, referring to The Jynx, as Sawyer glared at Lianna.

"Are you two alright?" Jack asked as he came up to them.

"Hmm…? Yeah, we're fine. Li had a nightmare, that's all. And I guess we woke up Sawyer, too…" Nick said quietly, looking up at Jack.

Lianna never broke her gaze with Sawyer, and neither did he, both fuming waves of hatred.

Jack watched her for a minute before nodding at Nick. "Well, don't worry about Sawyer. You guys should get back to sleep, though," he gave a small smile toward Nick, who smiled back as Jack left.

Lianna finally looked away from Sawyer, looking to Nick, "I'm going for a walk. Don't wait up for me, alright?" she asked, getting up.

"Are you sure you're okay alone? Do you want me to come with you?" Nick asked, but she merely shook her head before walking off. Nick quieted, sleep taking over him.

Lianna sighed, taking The Forseer out from her shirt, staring at its luminescent blue body. "I wonder how these others got here, on that pla-" she was cut off, as something grabbed her, covering her mouth while her neck was forced back.

"Stay calm. Move and I have a blade," a voice called out from behind her. "Tell me, how did you get here?"

"I was on the plane, Sawyer. Let me go if you want to be unharmed."

"Sawyer…? You're with him?" the voice asked as she was released from her paralyzing position. An Iraqi soldier came in front of her, as he put a knife away. "I'm terribly sorry, please forgive me," he said quietly, and she merely glared at him as if she were ready to spit venom.

"Who are you? And what the hell was that for!?" she asked, as she moved to hit him.

He grabbed her shoulders, restraining her upper body movements. "I'm Sayid, you were on the Oceanic Flight 815, correct?" she nodded. "So was I. But… I don't know who, or what, is here. Anything unusual is considered a threat for safety reasons."

"What are you, a soldier, or something?" she asked sarcastically, obviously not buying his story.

"Yes, I worked for the Iraqi National Guard," Sayid said quietly, awaiting her response.

"No way! That's pretty unusual. So… What did you do there?" she asked, intrigued by the odd job.

"I worked as a torture specialist."

"Then you think you could torture Sawyer for me? Or killing him would be nice," Lianna growled in suggestion, making Sayid laugh.

"I'm not going to do that. But why are you up so late?" he asked, now realizing he still had a hold on her and immediately let go.

"Because I can't sleep, if you must know. My dreams are haunted by horrifying visions which keep me up this mournful eve," she whispered in a dramatic tone.

"You've had nightmares?" he asked.

She blinked before nodding,"Don't mind me if I start to ramble like that… I'm a writer, as my brain tends to speak its waves of thoughts." Her face reddened from embarrassment.

He helped her up, giving a small smile, "Don't worry about it. Now, try to get some sleep."

"Oh by the way, I'm Lianna. Call me Li, Li-Li, or anything of the sort and I'll make you wish you didn't," she whispered before smiling and heading back to Nick.

Sayid merely stared at her, watching her leave, "She's a strange girl…"
