Take Two

By Bruce Clifford

I wish I knew why we struggle in this world
Even if we try we pull and struggle in this world
Maybe if we went to another star
Maybe if moved our spirits to Saturn or to Mars

I wish I knew why we struggle time and time again
Even if we didn't try we would still be fighting to get around the bend
I wish I knew why we struggle to make it through each day
We start out in the huddle, but nothing is ever saved

Take two aspirin to cure what hurts
Take two capsules when your stomach gets worse
Take two fingers and hold them up in the air
Take two letters and see if she cares
Take too many and make us all proud

I wish I knew why we tend to fight in the invisible shadows of pain
I wish I knew why we many have lied to build their castles in the hills
I wish I knew why politicians thrive when they are taking all their spills
Maybe some should be taking pills?

Take two aspirin to cure what hurts
Take two capsules when your stomach gets worse
Take two fingers and hold them up in the air
Take two letters and see if she cares
Take too many and make us all proud

I wish I knew why we struggle each day
Even if we survive we let one get away
Maybe if we went to another place in time
Maybe if we shuffled this empty galactic line
