She Never

By M. Jay Mansfield

For she never knew me...
we held each other in dying throes.....
placed walls before us ....
We dare not let our passion grow....
She held me in death..
in life's barren groves.....
when I sparkled....
and when I froze....
she was there when I found my wind....
and there as well ......
when I remembered how to spin.....
she watched me crash in flames of blue.....
she saw me ache...
and think of you.....
but she never knew me.....
she felt all my joys...
but magnified every pain.....
For all the touches faked or feigned...
she never knew me......
FOR EVERY SMILE.....
and every tear....
EVERY LAUGH....
year...after ....year........
with heaving chest he emptied himself upon the floor...
she never knew me....
she Loved me ...all in all she claimed...
she loved me..and she always would...
all in all..just pain.......
all in all... another loser's game....
she jumped ship and reality....
abandoned herself and began anew.....
what...what could I do?.....
for what pull is a word of mine....
alas....she never ...knew me.....
he fades away shrunken by time..
flowers wilted by love not crime......
his very core rotten and gone....
the love he depended on was gone....
all in all I guess it’s true...
Though you can force a player's hand....
you can’t force love into a barren land....
and no more saviors came his way...
and he smiled and cried day..after day...
the Love of his life...
to him dead and gone...
he watched her walk away...
shimmering as if truth...
she’d never seen past the light...
the fire had blinded her ....
and her heart lost sight....
she despised all she knew....
she left him there....
it was all she could do..
no way her heart could let him in..
so to her he was her sin..
she left him there......
she held him as the one to blame.....
and cursed his lively roaring flame......
she crushed and buried him many times....
but never...had she seen his eyes....
not once had she looked inside.....
looked beyond the coatings prime....
no not once had she.....
learned exactly what was he...
so in these throws of pain he lay.....
in a state of death forever he......
and as he twists inside his hell....
he softly whispers.....
she never knew me.......
