Mars Summer 2018

By John I. Blair

Never in all these many years
Has Mars looked quite like this.

Standing in the midnight dark
I stare out through the tangled trees

And see a brilliant spark
Transfix the southern sky.

Among white stars a crimson eye
Stares cold across the cosmos,

Calls to doubt my Terra-centered universe,
Evokes old gods and older fears.
